ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has threatened human lives. However, the efficiency of combined interventions on COVID-19 has not been accurately analyzed. In this study, an improved SEIR model considering both real human indoor close contact behaviors and personal susceptibility to COVID-19 was established. Taking Hong Kong as an example, a quantitative efficiency assessment of combined interventions (i.e. close contact reduction, vaccination, mask-wearing, school closures, workplace closures, and body temperature screening in public places) was carried out. The results showed that the infection risk of COVID-19 of students, workers, and non-workers/students were 3.1%, 8.7%, and 13.6%, respectively. The basic reproduction number R0 was equal to 1 when the close contact reduction rate was 59.9% or the vaccination rate reached 89.5%. The results could provide scientific support for interventions on COVID-19 prevention and control. © 2022 17th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2022. ABSTRACT

The Olympic Games continue to be a creator of adverse environmental impacts for host communities. Given the role that the Olympic Games play in sustainability due to their size, the number of people attending, new construction and infrastructure, and the extensive exposure by the media, this study investigated the Tokyo 2020 Games by evaluating the efficacy of their ecological sustainability efforts. Methods for this study were framed by the conceptual model of Muller et al. Specifically, the model is grounded on the three general aspects of sustainability: ecological, social, and economic. Compared to all Olympic events from 1992 through 2020, results from the present research indicated that Tokyo 2020 Olympics may have been the most ecologically friendly Games. This ecological record is significant, but it may be an unrealistic benchmark, given that the lack of attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic influenced much of the ecological sustainability scores.

ABSTRACT

In the context of the COVID-19 global epidemic, it is particularly important to use limited medical resources to improve the systemic control of infectious diseases. There is a situation where a shortage of medical resources and an uneven distribution of resources in China exist. Therefore, it is important to have an accurate understanding of the current status of the healthcare system in China and to improve the efficiency of their infectious disease control methods. In this study, the MP-SBM-Shannon entropy model (modified panel slacks-based measure Shannon entropy model) was proposed and applied to measure the disposal efficiency of the medical institutions responding to public health emergencies (disposal efficiency) in China from 2012 to 2018. First, a P-SBM (panel slacks-based measure) model, with undesirable outputs based on panel data, is given in this paper. This model measures the efficiency of all DMUs based on the same technical frontier and can be used for the dynamic efficiency analysis of panel data. Then, the MP-SBM model is applied to solve the specific efficiency paradox of the P-SBM model caused by the objective data structure. Finally, based on the MP-SBM model, undesirable outputs are considered in the original efficiency matrix alignment combination for the deficiencies of the existing Shannon entropy-DEA model. The comparative analysis shows that the MP-SBM-Shannon model not only solves the problem of the efficiency paradox of the P-SBM model but also improves the MP-SBM model identification ability and provides a complete ranking with certain advantages. The results of the study show that the disposal efficiency of the medical institutions responding to public health emergencies in China shows an upward trend, but the average combined efficiency is less than 0.47. Therefore, there is still much room for improvement in the efficiency of infectious disease prevention and control in China. It is found that the staffing problem within the Center for Disease Control and the health supervision office are two stumbling blocks.

ABSTRACT

Libraries are encountering certain challenges derived from changes on their business environment. With the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, digital and online functions of university libraries in Korea is suggested as an alternative for the future. Thus, it is significant to assess libraries’ business efficiency focusing on digital function while it is able to acquire valuable factors for future strategy. Therefore, the study adopts DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), a widely accepted analysis model for measuring efficiency. Moreover, the study derived appropriate factors for efficiency assessment in digital service of university library by literature review. Through this, factors regarding efficiency in university libraries can be measured. We hope this study could contribute to identify inefficient factors in university libraries as well as gaining basic data for developing improvement strategy for future. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
